Frequently Asked Questions

Q1) What papers do I need to get married?

A. You and your partner need your original Birth Certificates (you can get a new one of these from BDM at a cost of $45.00 if you have misplaced your one). If you were born overseas, either a Birth Certificate or an International Driver's Licence can be used. If divorced/widowed you will also need those original documents.

Q2) How soon can we get married?

A. You must lodge an official form (Notice of Intended Marriage form) with a Marriage Celebrant a calendar month prior to your marriage. I can forward this form to you or you can download from my website.

Q3) Am I able to use my new Married Surname straight after the marriage?

A. Yes, you can do this but to have it altered on your Driver's Licence or Passport, an application form needs to be sent in by you or the celebrant to BDM requesting an official Marriage certificate. This is included in my costing. Some brides decide not to have the surname changed on these papers or they may wait until they are due to be renewed. You can still call yourself by your new name.
